The second stop during my journey to the Lipizzaners in 2017 was Lipizzanergestüt Piber in Austria where the Mother’s day (Muttertagsgala) 2017 was held on 13th May 2017. A rich program is being held every year, including a herd of mares with foals, a herd of young people Stallions, and a dressing and dressage exhibition.
The breeding of Lipizzaners is based on ancestors from the Lipica Imperial Stud Farm and pursues the original goal of breeding: raise the best Lipizzan stallions which come to the Spanish Riding School in Vienna for training. Every year, the Lipizzaners impress over 150.000 tourists from around the world. The stud farm houses approximately brood mares, dressage horses performing during the stud farm´s celebratory events, sire stallions of the Spanish Riding School, and the mares and stallions that enjoy their well-deserved retirement. (Excerpt from my book „Lipicáni – Lipizzaners“)
During this day, I had the opportunity to personally meet with:
Mr. Christian Manz (Treasurer of the Lipizzan International Federation), Mr. Mag. Erwin Klissenbauer (Managing Director of the Spanish Riding School – Lipizzan Stud Farm Piber), Mr. Harald Neukam (Upper Stud Master of the the Lipizzan Stud Farm Piber), Ms. Dkfm. Elisabeth Gürtler (Managing Director of the Spanish Riding School – Lipizzan Stud Farm Piber), Mr. Dr. Max Dobretsberger (Stud Manager of the Lipizzan Stud Farm Piber and President of the Lipizzan International Federation), Ms. Dorothea Enzenberg (wife from Mr. Christian Manz).
I was also nice to meet Facebook friends the United States who are involved in training lipic horses.
